Kanchanaburi in Thailand is best known as the site of the Bridge on the River Kwai. Hordes of tourists visit to see The Bridge, see the death railway and chill out in this, now peaceful, riverside town (slightly less peaceful if you are sleeping close to the river and listening to the karaoke rafts as they are towed up and down every evening).
If you are ever here, look out for Apple's Guest House. Apart from being a guest house, this is a super restaurant. You'll be served fantastic Thai food in a lovely and casual garden setting (coils burning at your feet to keep the mozzies away). Flavours are intense, and the levels of spice are adjusted for those who prefer a less fierce heat. It was so good, we returned for dinner the next evening.
We tried to find out who Apple is or was. Could he/she have been the shadowy figure standing at the kitchen door?
Apple's Guest House and Restauarant is at 153/4 Moo 4, Sutjai Bridge, T. Thamakham Muang, Kanchanaburi.
